Model maker Urs (Nikolai Radke) has landed an exciting commission: he is to build a “magnificent” scale model of a city for a film production.

But when he arrives on set, it quickly becomes clear that everyone has a very different idea of what “magnificent” actually means. Urs now has to defend his model against a whole bunch of oddballs: the grim actor Ingo (Markus Angenvorth), the self-important director Jürgen (Marc Urwer), and the cold, detached producer Marzia (Katrin Krüsel). And then an even greater threat looms over his masterpiece: a bad-tempered sock monster.

The 27-minute short film "Behemoth Overruns Ursleben" was produced by Marc Urwer and Atris Film in 2021. The idea of the film came from Marc Urwer, the screenplay was written by Alexander Daus.

The shooting took place near Koblenz, Germany in September 2021. Nikolai Radke played the lead role, with Céline de Gennaro, Markus Angevorth, Marc Urwer, Kartin Krüsel, Timo Ben Schöfer and Anna Kniel taking on supporting roles. The film was directed by Maximilian Wiege and co-directed by Lisanne Leuders and Marc Urwer.

The model

A special feature of the film was the 2 x 1.2 meter miniature model, built by the Koblenz Model Club for the production. The model of the village "Ursleben" with its richness of detail is the model builder Urs‘s pride and joy. Harmonious, rural sounds can be heard as we dive into the model world: Birds chirping, children playing, cows mooing. In Urs's "real world" all this is missing.
